Product intro and specs

The VAPORESSO XROS Nano is one of the latest devices from Vaporesso. It’s the next in the line of pod vapes in the XROS series, e.g., the XROS, the XROS Mini, and the XROS 2. The XROS Nano uses 2 mL XROS compatible pods and incorporates some elements of the other devices while having a nice little personality of its own.

The XROS Nano is a small pod vape with a 1000 mAh battery, adjustable airflow, and two types of coils: a 0.8-ohm mesh coil, and a 1.2-ohm coil.

It’s similar in form to the Caliburn KOKO V2 and Drag Nano but with more functions and power. Prior to receiving this device, I was all about the KOKO V2. Spoiler alert: I haven’t charged the KOKO since getting the XROS Nano.

Price: $20.99 (at Element Vape)

Colors: Black, space grey, silver, yellow, pink, green

Build quality and design

The XROS Nano is a well-made and good looking little device. It’s 14.9 mm x 48.8 mm. The craftsmanship is immaculate, but it can get dings and scratches if roughed up. The anodizing feels good and the colors look good, but it’s not super rugged.

The finish is a matte aluminum with contrasting dividing the body. One half is flat and the other has diagonal cut grooves. The textured part keeps it more secure in your hand.

Fortunately, it comes with a chain lanyard so you never have to worry about dropping it and messing up that nice finish. I prefer the simple cord that came with the KOKO V2 and have been using this instead. The chain actually isn’t bad, and it’s much easier to get clasped than the KOKO lanyard.

One part of the design that's not in most pod mods is adjustable airflow. The airflow controller is a little switch sitting underneath the tiny airflow hole. The switch has a good resistance to it and it stays where you set it. To move it, you’re gonna have to use your nail because it’s so small. But it’s really easy to tune it in to where you prefer.

Occasionally when I hold the XROS Nano, I inadvertently cover up the airhole on the body of the device. But I like the draw tight and it doesn't negatively affect my experience. But if you're using the controller opened up, you may want to be conscious of covering it (the controller) because it has it's own airflow hole for when you want a loose MTL.

Getting started

Getting started is as easy as any other pod in this category. The pod is held in by really strong magnets that practically yank the pod from your fingers. Love it!

The pods have got a break-away top cap to the pod like the Caliburn pods. You don't pull on it, you literally break it away. It's a satisfying feeling. Refilling is done through a membrane fill-port on the top of the pod.

I recommend setting the airflow once your pod is all juiced up and ready to go. The XROS is draw activated, so there is no 5-click or anything like that. Once you take a draw (if the pod is in the housing), it's gonna vape. Make sure not to test the draw (when pod is unfilled) and without a sticker over the connection.

As an aside, if you think you hear your device making a pulsing sound when you take a drag, it is. That's the AXON Chip in pulse mode. I don't notice the pulsing really on the vape itself—as in, the hit going in and out—but the sound is there. It's nothing obnoxious unless you're in a silent room. It's nothing to worry about though, as far as the electronics go.

Performance

The coils hit quickly and I think that the draw is perfect. It's flavorful and even more enjoyable to me than the Caliburn. The two XROS pods perform well, but my preference is for the mesh coil as it allows for more options than the 1.2-ohm round wire coil. With the mesh coil, I can get practically the same vape as the 1.2 ohm when I close the airflow down, but when I open it up all the way, I can use a greater variety of juices in nic strengths with the 0.8-ohm pod.

The pulse of the AXON Chip—as far as I can tell—allows the coil to not get taxed for multiple draws in succession. The coil never tastes stressed out or too hot. I've gotten multiple refills before the coil tastes off, but that's mostly after I use some overly sweet salt that started to taste funky. As I think about it, salts sure don't seem to age like normal juice! I digress.

For the flavors in nic salt I really like, I cut them with a high PG juice or something from Halo to help keep the coils going longer. The ratio I used is 50/50 mostly, but high-PG juice has worked well too, with no leaking or spitting. I have not used high VG juice because I use high nic (even regular nic) in pods.

One thing that irks me is that the draw isn't more silent. It can whistle a bit, and there's that audible pulsing sound from its chipset. These are not major issues, but I do like a good stealth vape. For that, it misses the mark a bit.

Battery life and charging

The XROS Nano has a 1000 mAh battery. That's already a cut above most. By almost 100% (devices this size typically max out around the 500 mAh mark). That long runtime comes in handy when out and about. Right when I think the device is likely to die, it keeps on chugging along.

The charge time was about 30-45 minutes if I remember correctly, but nothing stood out as super fast or particularly long. You'll know when you need to charge based on the LEDs along the front face. Fully lit and it's all charged; each turns off as the battery depletes.

Pros / Cons

Verdict

I love having this device with me. I don't say that casually. The long-lasting battery has kept me going while out and about. And, as I said earlier, I am using it with a lanyard so it's been hanging out with me quite a bit.

One of mine got a little dinged up due to testing its finish, but I still keep it with me. I just wish I hadn't been so aggressive with it. It looks good out of the package (and out of a good-looking package, too!).

The performance for me of the XROS Nano is better than the Caliburn. The flavor isn't better necessarily than the Caliburn—not that it's any slouch—but the vape experience is more suited to me because of the options of the XROS Nano. From the pod options to the airflow controller. There's a lot to love, and a few ways to make it vape the way you like.

Highly recommended.
